Over the last several years, First Christian has seen a shift in Christian education. Sunday morning class attendance by children and young adults declined steadily. And this is a bad news/good news situation. Kingdom Kids programming for children and adults continued to grow and meet many of the needs of our congregation and members of the community.
Last year we had very small and sporadic attendance at Sunday School classes for children. And some of our long time teachers decided it was time to rest. We have tried an inter-generational Sunday school model with limited attendance. Through it all, the Couples Mellon class has remained steady.
Now, in an effort to meet the needs of our young adults and kids, we are offering a contemporary issues class for adults that I am teaching on Sunday mornings and classes for Kindergarten through 3rd grade and 4th through Middle school.
Twelve adults met last Sunday for a 5 week study on Faith and Gun Violence, and 7 kids attended class. It is a good start. And please don't forget - these are kids and adults that can or do attend Christian Education on Wednesday nights.
This is an update and an invitation to come and e a part of this important programming of the church.
Vision - A vital congregation loving God, loving people, serving the world.
