“If we ever needed the Lord before, we sure do need God now!
Fires, earthquakes, military conflict, talk of war and revenge...
Pray for our siblings in Puerto Rico.
Pray for those who serve our country in the Armed Forces.
Pray for wisdom for all leaders whose decisions affect lives and creation itself.
Pray for peace. Work to establish it. Work to protect our world from destruction.
Lord, in your mercy...”
These words were offered earlier this week by our General Minister and resident, Teresa Hord Owens. The traditional response to the words “Lord, in your mercy…”, is “Hear our prayers.”
Please be in prayer with me for the many people and places referenced in Rev. Owens words. It is overwhelming to watch the news or social media. So many dire things happening at once have us darting from one concern to the next. I have to remind myself to stop and take a slow deep breath. When I do this, I recall that God is with us in crises and in celebrations. I also remember that prayer is not just a matter or words. May we each find ways to respond to the world around us in life giving ways. May we pray and work for peace and wholeness.

Disciples Youth Group for middle school youth in grades six, seven, and eight.
The Rock is a safe, inclusive space for middle and high school students to explore Christian faith and its relevance to "real life." We meet weekly to spend time together playing games, hearing a lesson from the Bible, and having open discussions about what we've heard. Occasionally, we do special events and activities for fun and to serve others. The Rock is an ecumenical youth group, which is currently sponsored and lead by our congregation, along with Court Street United Methodist Church, First Presbyterian Church, and Heartland Church of the Nazarene. Meetings are Sunday evenings, 6-7:30 PM at The Rock Building (715 Nichols St., Fulton, MO 65251).
